Quotes by Mr.James Gosling !

"I think everybody has a different answer for what Web services are.”

“All of us who attended the meeting -- including Microsoft -- unanimously agreed that unilaterally extending the Java programming language would hurt compatibility among Java tools and programs, would injure other tools vendors, and would damage customers' ability to run a Java-based software product on whatever platform they wished,”

"One of the Microsoft representatives in attendance admitted that unilateral language extensions would be detrimental and said that Microsoft 'wouldn't be cowboys' by unilaterally introducing such extensions in their implementation of Java.”

“SOAP and XML have often been characterized as HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) for silicon-based life forms. An HTML that is readable by software,”

"I am aware of no PC manufacturer that is presently shipping a second, compatible JVM on their Windows systems,”

“People think of security as a noun, something you go buy. In reality, it's an abstract concept like happiness. Openness is unbelievably helpful to security.” My fav

“The clock rate curves have pretty much flattened out since 2002.”

“We want to get engineers to think about something else.”

“A lot of [developers] have an amazingly weak grasp of physics. We've become a much more connected world and there's a lot more to program for than Web services.”

Celebrating 25 Years of the Smiley...!

This year reportedly marks the 25th anniversary of the emoticon, a form of expression that has today become one of the most recognized symbols in digital communication.

First introduced in 1982, the smiley :) and his buddies have religiously added that much needed layer of expression to routine digital conversations. Emoticons have helped people better express themselves in otherwise impersonal conversations.
Jeff Bonforte, vice president, Yahoo! Messenger, said, "Nearly 85 percent of people using Yahoo! Messenger daily rely on emoticons to add color and character to their communication. Our users are the experts, and to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the emoticon, we are asking Yahoo! Messenger users to create the next generation of smiley faces.

" Commemorating the 25th anniversary of the emoticon, Yahoo! Messenger is conducting an 'Emoticontest', inviting consumers to submit their favorite expressions that will compete for the next set of emoticons.

Winners' contributions (read: emoticons) will be featured on Yahoo! Messenger's worldwide service. As part of the celebration, Yahoo! has also conducted a survey of nearly 40,000 Yahoo! Messenger users to find out where and how emoticons play a role in everyday communication. The survey threw up some interesting results. For starters, nearly 82 percent of those who use Yahoo! Messenger daily, use emoticons in their IM conversations. Eighty three percent of respondents say that 'happiness' is the one most expressed emotion using emoticons, the other being 'flirting'.

Over half of those surveyed find it easier to convey feelings of love through emoticons than in person. Fifty seven percent would rather express a 'crush' on someone using an emoticon. Only 10 percent would go so far as proposing marriage to their loved ones via IM.

From the respondents, as much as sixty-six percent have memorized text characters for three or more emoticons, while 19 percent have memorized text characters for over 10 emoticons. And not surprisingly, those aged 19 to 25 years are the most avid users of emoticons. Interestingly, nearly half (48 percent) of respondents over the age of 50 are using emoticons in their everyday communication...

Travel & Living Special......[by Tejesh]

I have become a great fan of Travel & Living channel recently..........as i am very much interested in knowing different cultures, places, cuisines etc etc.......... Its a great media through which you can know more about this world and different kinds of people living in it........

Now i would like to tell you about my favorite program in thechannel............"Floyd's India"..... Floyd is a world famous chef ......known for his extensive collection of cuisines....... he is aged around 55 and traveled most of his life collecting recipes from different places........ its a 3 month 12 episode serial...........in which each episode is concentrated on one state and its exclusive cuisine..........

Floyd has covered variety of cuisines like...........Sweet Bengali dishes, Spicy Andhra biryani, TNs Chettinadu chicken, Keralas Coconut cuisines, Rajasthan's red chilli curries, Goas Western mix ,Punjabi Tandooris etc........
Floyd cooks these dishes on the roads besides markets............so,all the ingredients are freshly bought from market........and there will be ppl around him curiously watching..........and he does all these while drinking chilled beer.......... In Kerala he cooked in a fisherman's port on the kovalam beach........

I cant understand the intention of his explanation of Indian currys..........he praises the ordinary dishes of our household as some thing extraordinary.......... It might be to increase the viewer ratings..........or may be gain interest of the Indian population worldwide ........ or is it really Indian dishes so extra ordinary........... or is it the American way of expressing desi things..........[ i remember one incident in our office regarding this.....one PM in our office explained one snack to Japanese clients as "mix veg curry stuffed in wheat flour and baked...."guess what it is............samosa.....:))))]

I will share some extraordinary explanations of his...........

"Ladies fingers deeply fried with a touching of Coconut, Curry leaves for garnish..................." - Bendakaya Vepudu(in Achamaina Telugu)..... "Dal curry with _________ leaves for taste......." - Gongura Pappu "Chicken cooked with Red hod Indian onions and Chettinadu masala" - Chettinadu chicken "This Gharam masala has more ingredients than feathers in a shuttle cock............best to get is to buy from nearby Asian market (Targeting American Indians)" - he meant to say more than 16 species are grinded to get this masala!!!! "Indian chicken barbeque".......chicken kabab fried in the mud pot.....punjabi style....... "Well baked chicken in tomato sauce and butter for garnish".....chicken tikka masala....... "The best and hottest snack i have ever eaten........" - Chilli bajji "Indian dish cooked desi way (using ghee, butter, cashews) has more fat content than a 16 course dinner in an American restaurant!!!!" "This is not advisable for light hearted ppl as its too rich.........." - while doing butter chicken....... "I have never even dreamt that curd can be used this extensively......." - saying abt dahi varieties in Delhi episode.......

now the most interesting one........ have any one of you ever tried to find out what the green pickle which we get with tandoori items is made of...............here is the recipe.....
Grind Mint leaves, Coriander leaves and green chilli........ add a fresh juice mix of lemon and apple.......thats it!!! this is described as "Best Complementary touching dish to any Barbecue in the world!!!!"
His last words in the Last episode................"Indian Cuisine is more in Number and Variety than the Number and Variety of sex poses in Kamasutra!!!!"

May be because of my inexperience in writing...........this article is not much interesting..........(pls bare this novice....i assure to improve with time) but the show was very interesting, informative and mouth-watering..............

Finally what ever may be his intention...............i have understood one thing...........we have not even tasted one tenth of India's wide variety cuisine.......... So i have decided to visit all the states in my lifetime (if not all.....atleast bigger ones in mainland) and enjoy the local varieties rather than sticking to the same friedrices or noodles........

ok frens after writing all this my mouth is watering...........so i am going, to have a dahi poori...................bye!!!!

Tejas LCA [Light Combat Aircraft] INDIA

The HAL Tejas (Sanskrit: तेजस् : "Radiance") is an advanced, lightweight, supersonic multirole fighter aircraft being developed by India. It is a tailless,[1] compound delta wing design powered by a single engine. The project was originally known as the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) – a designation which continues in popular usage – but was officially christened "Tejas"[2] by then former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in a ceremony held on 4 May 2003.[3]Limited series production of the Tejas commenced in 2007; it is currently projected to achieve limited initial operational clearance (IOC) with the Indian Air Force (IAF) by 2008, followed by full operational clearance (FOC) by the end of 2010.[4] A two-seat trainer variant is also in development, as is a naval variant capable of operating from the Indian Navy's aircraft carriers.

The Indian Light Combat Aircraft (LCA -- sometimes called Last Chance Aircraft) is the world's smallest, light weight, multi-role combat aircraft. The LCA is designed to meet the requirements of Indian Air Force as its frontline multi-mission single-seat tactical aircraft to replace the MiG-21 series of aircraft. The delta wing configuration, with no tailplanes or foreplanes, features a single vertical fin. The LCA is constructed of aluminium-lithium alloys, carbon-fibre composites, and titanium. LCA integrates modern design concepts and the state-of-art technologies such as relaxed static stability, flyby-wire Flight Control System, Advanced Digital Cockpit, Multi-Mode Radar, Integrated Digital Avionics System, Advanced Composite Material Structures and a Flat Rated Engine.

Within India’s force structure, the LCA is largely expected to replace its 400 or so MiG-21 aircraft with a more versatile and capable performer who can outlast the 125 or so upgraded MiG-21 ‘Bisons’ scheduled to remain in service until 2016. Performance is expected to be somewhat similar to a Mirage 2000 (which India flies) in terms of weapons, size, et. al., with lesser top speed but interior electronics that are fully up to date. Its price point is unknown at present, but the goal of an inexpensive fighter with performance that compares well to earlier model F-16s and Mirage 2000s could make this aircraft a capable export contender around the Third World.

The Kaveri Engine: Keystone, or Killer?

One of the issues facing the program, however, is the fallout from India’s drive to develop an indigenous “Kaveri” jet engine. As the Rediff’s February 5, 2006 report notes:
“DRDO scientists had kept the development of the Kaveri engine under wraps, exuding confidence that India had developed the technological edge to develop its own aircraft engine, so far confined to handful of developed countries.”

Some of the reasons for that are technical. Modern jet engines are far more complex than even Vietnam-era engines like the GE 79 that equipped the F-4 Phantom. Producing a working, reliable engine that can operate at these high pressures and thrust ratings is not easy. In addition, the Kaveri engine’s requirements are being specifically designed for Indian environment. The engine is a variable cycle-flat-rated engine in which the thrust drop due to high ambient, forward speed is well compensated by the increased turbine entry temperature at the spool. This concept has been already demonstrated under high temperature and pressure conditions in DRDO’s High Mach Facility. The engine is controlled by a Kaveri full authority digital control unit {KADECU), which DRDO claims to have developed and successfully demonstrated at its test bed.

Modding my MotoRazr V3i...

What is modding?
Modding is a slang expression that is derived from the verb, "modify", and the noun, "modification". The term can refer to the act of modifying a piece of hardware or software to perform a function not intended by someone with legal rights concerning that modification.

Here are a few definitions of some terms that you'll hear a lot of when you start modifying your phone.
Bootloader - This can be compared to the BIOS on a PC. It is low level software telling the phone what is what and where to find what it needs to operate. Bootloaders can be upgraded and downgraded.
Flash - This is the most common thing you modify on the phone. The flash is essentially the operating system of the phone. When you flash your phone it will adjust the various features of your phone.
Flex - These are the files that contain the cell phone service provider's branding on the phone. This is where things like your start up animation with the Cingular or T-Mobile logos and sounds come from. It also contains the specific menus and labels for programs they use like T-Zones or MEdia Mall.
Monster Pack - Includes the flash and the flex and a language pack for a specific language all in one file. It installs everything in one step. They come in many varieties, some are unbranded for Motorola.
Seem - The phone has numerous seems programmed into the operating system of the phone. These seems control every aspect of how the phone behaves such as: SMS being turned on or off by default, enbaling the roaming icon, raising the volume level on the various speakers of the phone, enabling ENS, etc.

These are the successful mods done by me to my V3i...

History of Bluetooth...

Bluetooth is the latest in technology social conversation. Bluetooth maybe
technology but it provides a way to communicate between other devices such as PDA's, cell phones, laptops, PCs, printers and digital camerasthrough a short range radio frequency.

A Scandinavian firm originally designed the logo at the time the SIG was formally introduced to the public. Keeping to the same origin as the Bluetooth name, the logo unites the Runic alphabetic characters "H", which looks similar to an asterisk, and a "B", which are the initials for Harald Bluetooth. If you look close enough you can see both embodied in the logo.

A long time ago (historians differ on the exact dates, but it was sometime in the 10th Century C.E.) in a country far, far away, (which was mostly Denmark, with a little bit of Norway added in for flavor,) there lived a Viking king who was principally noted for converting to a foreign religion called Christianity.....

Harald I Bluetooth (Danish Harald Blåtand) was the King of Denmark between 940 and 985 AD. The name "Blåtand" was probably taken from two old Danish words, 'blå' meaning dark skinned and 'tan' meaning great man. He was born in 910 as the son of King Grom The Old (King of Jutland, the main peninsula of Denmark) and his wife Thyre Danebold (daughter of King Ethelred of England). Like many Vikings, Harald considered it honorable to fight for treasure in foreign lands. When Harald's sister Gunhild was widowed after the death of the violent Norwegian king Erik Blood Axe, she came to Denmark to seek Harald's help in securing control of Norway. Harald took the opportunity to seize control himself. By 960 he was at the height of his powers, ruling over both Denmark and Norway. He was baptized by a priest named Poppo, sent by the German emperor. He then created a monument that read: "King Harald raised this monument to the memory of Grom his father and Thyre his mother. Harald conquered all of Denmark and Norway and made the Danes Christian". These words were also carved in stone called rune stones. Harald was killed in a battle in 985. Harald completed the country's unification begun by his father, converted the Danes to Christianity, and conquered Norway. The expansion begun by Harald in Norway was continued by his son Sweyn I, who conquered England in 1013. Under Sweyn's son Canute there grew up a great Anglo-Scandinavian kingdom that included parts of Sweden.

Old Harald Bluetooth united Denmark and Norway, Bluetooth of today will unite the worlds of
computers and telecom (hopefully longer than the few years Harald's Viking kingdom survived). In 1994 Ericsson Mobile Communications initiated a study to investigate the feasibility of a low-power low-cost radio interface between mobile phones and their accessories. In Feb 1998, five companies Ericsson, Nokia, IBM, Toshiba and Intel formed a Special Interest Group (SIG). The group contained the necessary business sector members - two market leaders in mobile telephony, two market leaders in laptop computing and a market leader in digital signal processing technology. It is estimated that before year 2002, Bluetooth will be a built-in feature for more than 100 million mobile phones and several million communication devices ranging from handsets and portable PCs to desktop computers and notebooks.

Bluetooth Core Specification Versions:

Bluetooth Specification Version 1.1 and Earlier: Several Bluetooth specification versions have been released since Bluetooth technology was introduced in 1998.
Versions 1.0 and 1.0B had too many problems and restraints for manufacturers to successfully develop Bluetooth devices. The main issue was the lack of interoperability among devices.

Bluetooth Version 1.2: Many new Bluetooth devices, like the latest cell phones, are being sold with the newer Bluetooth specification version 1.2. So, what new features/benefits does Bluetooth 1.2 offer?
  • Backward compatible with Bluetooth 1.1
  • Adaptive Frequency Hopping - helps reduce radio interference by eliminating the use of crowded frequencies in the hopping sequence
  • Faster transmission speeds (1 Mbps)
  • Extended Synchronous Connections Oriented links - improves voice quality of audio connections by enabling retransmissions of corrupted data.
  • Received Signal Strength Indicator
  • Host Controller Interface (HCI) support for 3-wire UART
  • HCI access to timing information for Bluetooth applications

Bluetooth Version 2.0 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate): There may be multiple communication technologies, but they all share one thing in common: Faster is better. The Bluetooth SIG realized this, and worked on improving the speeds of Bluetooth version 1.2. Bluetooth version 2.0 + EDR was announced by the Bluetooth SIG in June 2004 and began appearing in Bluetooth devices in late 2005.
